So you've arrived at the conference, and there are definitely butterflies in your stomach doing some crazy loop de loops! Some nerve calming tips....
1. Practice makes nearly perfect...
Work on your pitch. Don't aim for perfection, human emotions and nerves always scramble what you meant to say with something else. Pray before meeting the editor, and don't forget to breathe in between sentences. It will help!
2. Be you.
Your book is your heart on the printed page. Embrace that concept and you'll be much more at ease for your first appointment. That, and a nice cup of cappachino afterwards.
3. It's worth a contact.
Even if your work isn't matching up to the publisher's needs, making contacts is a good thing. Who knows, maybe someday you will want to try your writer's hand at something that publisher will be interested in.
